Why UK users are quitting Vinted in 2026
Our corpus of 2,554 UK complaints surfaces the same reasons over and over. Any one of them is enough to make a rational seller move. Most quitters cite two or more.
- The Buyer Protection fee escalation. What started at a modest flat rate has ballooned into a percentage-plus-fixed charge that changes seller economics on low-value items.
- HMRC reporting from January 2025. Vinted now reports users who cross the DAC7 threshold (30 sales or €2,000 within a calendar year) to HMRC. Many casual sellers were surprised, some frightened.
- Permanent bans without meaningful review. 715 of the 2,554 users in our corpus report bans with no stated reason or a demonstrably false one.
- The ban-apologise-ban loop. 68 documented cases where an account is restored following complaint, then re-banned within 24 to 72 hours for the same or a substituted reason.
- Wallet freezes. Funds users have already earned are held at the point of ban, with no route to withdraw.
- Counterfeit bans with proof of authenticity. 347 users banned for suspected counterfeit sales while holding brand-issued authentication or Vinted's own Item Verification pass.
- Support responses generated by automation. Users describe responses that reference the wrong item, the wrong order, the wrong currency, or the wrong platform entirely.
How to leave Vinted properly (do this in order)
If you close your account first, you lose leverage for the other steps. Do these in sequence and you keep every option open.
- Step 1: withdraw any wallet balance to your linked bank account. Do this now while the account is live. If Vinted has already frozen your wallet, skip to step 5.
- Step 2: file a Subject Access Request under UK GDPR Article 15. Vinted must respond within one month. Ask specifically for: all personal data held about you, the categories of recipients your data has been shared with, all data used as inputs to any moderation, ban or suspension decisions, and meaningful information about the logic of any automated decisions affecting you. - Step 3: download your purchase and sale history for tax and record purposes. UK HMRC keeps DAC7 records for six years, so should you.
- Step 4: contact any active buyers or sellers and complete or cancel any open transactions. Do not leave open cases when you go.
- Step 5: request erasure under Article 17 in writing, in the same channel you filed the SAR. Do not use the in-app "delete account" button until the SAR has been received in full. Deleting the account first can obstruct your access rights.
- Step 6: only after the SAR is fulfilled, close the account.
- Step 7: monitor for residual data. Try to re-register with the same email 30 days later. If registration is blocked, you have evidence that Vinted retained your data. File with the ICO.
