Privacy policy
Who we are
Sad Vinted Faces is a free consumer campaign run by Catherine Warrilow. It is a personal project, not a company. Catherine is the person responsible for your personal information under UK data protection law.
We are not part of Vinted, and Vinted does not endorse this site.
You can contact us about anything in this policy at privacy@sadvintedfaces.com.
What we collect
Survey entries
When you complete the survey, we collect your rating, your written review, what kind of Vinted user you are (buyer, seller or both), details of any bans, scams or money you lost, and whether Vinted helped. You can also choose to give us your Vinted username, your email address and your city and country. You can tell us whether we may contact you, whether we may use your story in our media, and whether we may display your review on the site.
Messages and forms
If you email us, send a bug report, sign up as a volunteer or send us a case study, we keep the details you send so we can reply and do what you have asked.
Newsletters
If you subscribe to a newsletter, we store your email address, and any name you give us, with MailerLite, which sends our emails. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Website logs
Our servers record your IP address, your browser type and the page you came from. We use these records to stop spam and abuse, keep the site running and count downloads. We do not try to identify you from them.
Analytics
Google Analytics only loads if you click Accept on our cookie message. It tells us which pages people find useful. IP addresses are anonymised. If you click Reject, it does not load.
Why we can use your information
- Consent for publishing your review or story, for newsletters, for analytics and for any contact you ask for. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests in running the campaign, replying to your messages, keeping the site secure and stopping abuse.
- Legal obligations where the law requires us to keep or share information.
Cookies
The volunteer area uses a sign-in cookie, and a cookie that remembers your name and email so the volunteer tools know who you are. Both last 30 days. We remember your cookie choice in your browser's local storage. Google Analytics cookies are only set if you accept.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your information. We use these providers to run the site:
- Cloudflare, which hosts the website and stores our database.
- Google, which holds backup copies of some survey entries in shared spreadsheets, runs Google Analytics if you accept it, and stores some case study files in Google Drive.
- MailerLite, which sends our newsletters.
- Anthropic, which makes Claude, the AI tool that helps draft some replies to messages.
- Ko-fi, if you choose to make a donation. Ko-fi's own privacy policy covers your payment.
Claude, an AI tool made by Anthropic, helps draft some of our replies. Catherine reads and checks every reply before it is sent. We use the messages sent to us only to improve the replies the tool drafts.
Some of these providers process information outside the UK. Where they do, they rely on the safeguards they publish.
We do not send your personal details to Vinted unless you ask us to, and we check with you first. We may publish anonymous, combined figures from the survey.
How long we keep information
We keep survey entries and messages for two years from when we receive them, then delete them. Newsletter subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe. Website logs are kept for a short period.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you (a subject access request, which we answer within one month);
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your information;
- limit how we use it, or object to how we use it;
- send your information to you, or to another organisation, in a usable format.
You can withdraw consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing, or by asking us to remove your survey entry or story. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, email privacy@sadvintedfaces.com from the address you used, or give us enough detail for us to find your record. We may need to check your identity first.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please talk to us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
This site is not aimed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the campaign changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
