How to appeal a Vinted ban in the UK (the 5-step guide that actually works)

By Catherine Warrilow, founder of Sad Vinted Faces. Last updated 2026-10-10. Based on the UK survey of 6,500 Vinted users. About the author.
Quick answerVinted's in-app appeal is largely automated and rarely overturned on first reply. The route that actually recovers accounts and money is a parallel one: send a Subject Access Request citing Article 15(1)(h) UK GDPR, demand human review under Article 22(3), raise a Section 75 or chargeback claim on your card for any Vinted fees, and file a Trading Standards complaint via Citizens Advice (0808 223 1133). All templates below.

The step-by-step

  1. Open the in-app appeal and keep every reply. In the Vinted app, tap the ban notification and select the appeal option. Reply briefly and factually, citing the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and DMCC Act 2024 transparency requirements. Screenshot every message you receive, including the templated ones. These form the paper trail for every subsequent route.
  2. Send a Subject Access Request within 48 hours. Email privacysupport@vinted.co.uk, cc legal@vinted.co.uk and legal@vinted.com, from the email on your Vinted account. Cite Article 15 UK GDPR and explicitly request Article 15(1)(h) — “the meaningful logic behind any automated decision-making”. Vinted has 30 calendar days to respond. If the SAR pack contains the phrase “detected automatically” next to a flagged action, that is written proof of an automated decision without human review.
  3. Demand Article 22(3) human review. If the SAR confirms the ban was automated, reply to legal@vinted.co.uk citing Article 22(3) UK GDPR, which gives you the right to a human review of any decision based solely on automated processing that has significant effect on you. Give them 14 days to respond. Community reports show this is more likely to reverse a ban than any other single step.
  4. Raise a Section 75 or chargeback on any Vinted fees. If you paid any Vinted fees by credit card (purchase £100 to £30,000), call your card issuer and raise a Section 75 claim. Credit cards go via Consumer Credit Act 1974. Debit cards use chargeback (within 120 days of transaction). This recovers Vinted fees paid for buyer-protection, bumps and spotlights, and the claim is separate from Vinted’s cooperation.
  5. File a Trading Standards complaint via Citizens Advice. Call Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 or file online at citizensadvice.org.uk. Reference the DMCC Act 2024 professional-diligence duty and the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Citizens Advice refers patterns to Trading Standards. Your single complaint joins thousands — the stronger the pattern, the harder for regulators and Vinted to ignore.

What won't work (and why Vinted want you to try these first)

What the data says

Of the 6,500 UK Vinted users in the Sad Vinted Faces survey, 964 report account bans or suspensions without a clear reason. 514 have been banned permanently. The pattern across those cases is consistent: automated moderation, templated refusals, and recoveries only coming through the external routes above — not through Vinted's own in-app appeal.

People also ask

Can I appeal a Vinted ban?

Yes, but Vinted's in-app appeal process is largely automated and the first reply is usually a templated repeat of the ban reason. The appeal routes that actually recover accounts and money are external: a Subject Access Request citing Article 15(1)(h) UK GDPR, a Section 75 or chargeback claim via your card issuer, and a Trading Standards complaint through Citizens Advice.

How long does a Vinted ban appeal take?

Vinted's own in-app appeal typically responds within 24 to 72 hours with a templated reply. A Subject Access Request must be answered within 30 calendar days under UK GDPR. Section 75 and chargeback claims via your card issuer typically take 8 to 12 weeks. Financial Ombudsman complaints have an 8-week internal window with Vinted Pay before escalation.

What is the Vinted appeal email address?

Vinted does not publish a dedicated appeals email. For account-related issues: legal@vinted.co.uk and privacysupport@vinted.co.uk. For wallet-related complaints: complaints@vintedpay.com citing FCA firm reference 1037693.

Does Vinted overturn permanent bans?

In most cases documented in the Sad Vinted Faces survey of 6,500 UK users, permanent bans have not been reversed by Vinted even after appeal. However, 964 users have reported bans or suspensions, and some have had accounts restored following a Subject Access Request plus an Article 22(3) demand for human review of the automated decision.

Can I open a new Vinted account after a ban?

Vinted's Terms and Conditions section 7 explicitly prevent banned users from registering again. The only carve-out in section 4 is for accounts that were unlawfully taken over. Creating a new account after a ban is itself a breach of the Terms and typically results in the new account being banned within days or weeks.
