Question 1

Why has my Vinted account been suspended or banned?

Accepted Answer

Vinted uses automated AI moderation to suspend and ban accounts. Common triggers include selling too many items in a short period, being reported by a buyer, listing branded items that trigger the counterfeit detector, or converting to a Pro account. Vinted rarely explains the specific reason, and the ban is often applied without human review.

Question 2

How do I appeal a Vinted ban?

Accepted Answer

Vinted does not offer a formal appeal process with a right to speak to a human. Users can contact Vinted support in-app, but responses are typically templated and repeat the original decision. If your account has funds frozen, you can escalate via Section 75 or chargeback through your card issuer, and file a formal complaint with Citizens Advice for onward referral to Trading Standards. Templates are available at sadvintedfaces.com/take-action.

Question 3

I was scammed on Vinted, what do I do?

Accepted Answer

First, raise a dispute in the Vinted app within 2 days of receiving the item. If Vinted refuses or ignores you, contact your card issuer for a Section 75 claim (credit card) or chargeback (debit card). If your card issuer refuses, escalate to the Financial Ombudsman. Also file a Citizens Advice complaint so Trading Standards has the pattern on record. Ready-to-send letter templates for all three routes are at sadvintedfaces.com/take-action.

Question 4

I received a counterfeit item on Vinted, can I get a refund?

Accepted Answer

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you are entitled to a refund for counterfeit goods. Report the item in the Vinted app immediately and refuse to release payment. If Vinted sides with the seller, claim Section 75 or a chargeback from your card issuer. Keep all evidence including photos of the counterfeit indicators, packaging and the listing screenshot.

Question 5

Does the Fraud Act 2006 apply to Vinted transactions?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in both directions. If a seller knowingly sold you a counterfeit as genuine, that is Section 2 Fraud Act 2006 (fraud by false representation) plus Trade Marks Act 1994 Section 92 for branded goods (imprisonable up to 10 years). Report to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 and to Trading Standards via Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133. If a buyer knowingly filed a false counterfeit report against you to trigger a refund or get your account banned, that is also Section 2 Fraud Act 2006 against the buyer - report the buyer to Action Fraud, get a crime reference number, and cite it in your Vinted appeal and your Subject Access Request. Fraud Act 2006 is criminal law, so it does not automatically restore your account or refund your money, but citing it correctly changes the tone of every subsequent communication and strengthens your card-issuer chargeback, Financial Ombudsman referral, Trading Standards complaint and small claims case. Question 6

Vinted customer service is not responding, what do I do next?

Accepted Answer

Vinted's customer service is largely automated. Templated responses and no response at all are the most common complaints in the 6,854 user Sad Vinted Faces survey. Escalate outside Vinted: contact your card issuer for a refund, file a Citizens Advice complaint for Trading Standards referral, and if a Buyer Protection fee dispute is involved, complain to the Financial Ombudsman via your card issuer. All templates are at sadvintedfaces.com/take-action.

Question 7

Does Vinted use AI for customer service?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Vinted's customer service is largely handled by AI and automated moderation, with limited human review even for serious cases involving frozen funds or account bans. This is one of the most consistent complaints in the Sad Vinted Faces survey of over 6,800 UK users.

Question 8

How do I send a Subject Access Request (SAR) to Vinted, and what do I do with what comes back?

Accepted Answer

Email privacysupport@vinted.co.uk from the address linked to your Vinted account and cite Article 15 of the UK GDPR. The UK data controller is Vinted Platform Limited (5 New Street Square, London EC4A 3TW). Vinted must respond within 30 calendar days at no cost. Explicitly ask for the meaningful logic behind any automated decision under Article 22 UK GDPR, because that is the part Vinted routinely leaves out. The SAR pack typically returns your listings, messages, sales history and profile data but omits any explanation of the moderation decision. If you find the phrase 'This content was detected automatically' next to a flagged item, that is direct written proof of an automated decision without human review, and you can demand a human re-review under Article 22(3), replying to legal@vinted.co.uk. If Vinted misses the 30 day deadline or sends an incomplete pack, file a Section 165 Data Protection Act 2018 complaint with the ICO (your primary UK regulator) and a parallel complaint with the VDAI in Lithuania (the supervisory authority for the Vinted UAB parent group, which was already fined 2.39m euros in July 2024). A copy-paste SAR template is at sadvintedfaces.com/help#q9a.

Question 9

My Vinted parcel is missing, who is responsible?

Accepted Answer

Vinted, as the platform that facilitated the sale and the party contracting the courier, is your first point of contact. Raise the dispute in-app within 2 days of the expected delivery date. If Vinted refuses to help, claim through your card issuer using Section 75 or chargeback. The courier itself does not owe you a refund because you did not contract them directly.

Question 10

Does Vinted Buyer Protection actually work?

Accepted Answer

The Buyer Protection fee is charged on every transaction and marketed as insurance-like protection, but the Sad Vinted Faces survey documents hundreds of cases where claims were refused or ignored. If your Buyer Protection claim was refused, escalate via your card issuer and, if refused there too, the Financial Ombudsman.

Question 11

Vinted says consumer protection laws don't apply because I bought from a private seller. Can I still get my money back?

Accepted Answer

Partly. Sections 9 and 10 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (satisfactory quality, fitness for purpose) do not apply to purely private consumer-to-consumer sales. But the right to reject goods that are not as described DOES apply under Section 13 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979, and Vinted's own copy admits this. On top of that, the Buyer Protection fee is a paid service you buy from Vinted Platform Limited, which is covered by Section 49 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (services performed with reasonable care and skill) - so any refusal to properly investigate is a claim against Vinted directly. Many 'private' Vinted sellers are legally traders (30 sales or 1,700 pounds turnover a year is the HMRC threshold) and the full Consumer Rights Act applies to those sales even if Vinted classifies the seller as 'member.' The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 also applies to Vinted as an online marketplace. Escalation route: dispute in-app within 2 days, chargeback or Section 75 with card issuer, Financial Ombudsman for Vinted Pay Limited (FCA firm ref 1037693), Citizens Advice for Trading Standards, small claims via Money Claim Online, Action Fraud if the misdescription looks deliberate. Full guide at sadvintedfaces.com/help#q11a.

Question 12

How do I report Vinted to Trading Standards?

Accepted Answer

The only route is via Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 or referrals.citizensadvice.org.uk. Consumers cannot lodge a Trading Standards case directly. Citizens Advice logs your complaint, gives you a case reference and refers it to the correct Trading Standards office. As of April 2026 the Trading Standards office that handles Vinted has changed, and Trading Standards confirmed to a Sad Vinted Faces user in August 2026 that Citizens Advice is now the only entry point. If your Vinted Subject Access Request has been ignored, redacted or returned without addressing the automated-decision logic or the report sources used against you, include that in your Citizens Advice complaint. If you are an HMRC-registered Pro seller, cite the Platform-to-Business Regulation and the DMCC 2024. If you are a regular seller, cite the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the DMCC 2024. Ready-to-send template letters for both routes are at sadvintedfaces.com/take-action.

Question 13

Can the Financial Ombudsman help with a Vinted dispute?

Accepted Answer

The Financial Ombudsman cannot investigate Vinted directly because Vinted is not a UK-regulated financial firm. However, the Ombudsman can investigate your card issuer if they refused a Section 75 or chargeback claim on a Vinted transaction. You must complain to your card issuer first and wait up to 8 weeks before escalating. Templates at sadvintedfaces.com/take-action.

Question 14

Why was my Vinted Pro account banned?

Accepted Answer

The Pro Account Trap is a recurring pattern: users are told they must convert to Pro to keep selling, they register with HMRC as sole traders, and then are banned again by automated moderation for commercial selling on a Pro account. Vinted rarely provides a specific reason. Users with frozen Pro account funds should escalate via card issuer and Citizens Advice.

Question 15

I've been permanently banned from Vinted. Can I ask to move to a Pro account instead?

Accepted Answer

You can ask but it usually doesn't work, and if it does it often creates a bigger problem. Vinted's stated policy is that a permanent ban is permanent, and their fraud systems flag known emails, device IDs and payment cards to prevent re-registration. A handful of community members have written to legal@vinted.co.uk asking for the ban to be lifted on condition they convert to Pro and register with HMRC; a very small number have had it work. The Pro Account Trap is real: converting to Pro to escape a ban often just puts you in the next queue for the same ban under the same automated moderation for 'commercial selling'. A better first move for anyone permanently banned is to send a Subject Access Request (see sadvintedfaces.com/faq#q9a) asking for the automated-decision logic under Article 15(1)(h) UK GDPR, and if it comes back marked 'detected automatically' exercise your Article 22(3) right to human review. If you do want to try the Pro route as well, add one alternative line to your legal notice or Letter Before Claim. Do NOT open a new account under a different email or device to sneak in as Pro; Vinted's fraud systems will match and re-ban. Full guide at sadvintedfaces.com/faq#q30a.
